    Assistant Professor of Transnational Studies, Texas A&M University

    The Department of International Studies at Texas A&M University announces an entry-level assistant professor tenure-track position in the area of Transnational Studies. Candidates must be prepared to teach a variety of courses in our large, interdisciplinary International Studies degree program that combines humanities-based research with the social sciences. The department is also home to modern language majors (French, German, Russian) and minors (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian).

    Preference will be given to candidates:

    • credentialed to teach culture and/or language courses in any two of the modern language programs in the department;
    • with demonstrated commitment to cross-border, comparative, and interdisciplinary research and teaching;
    • and with scholarly research and publication appropriate to a research-oriented department and university.

    PhD required by date of appointment. Interviews will be conducted at the MLA Convention in Chicago.

    UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO

    LECTURER II IN ARABIC

    The Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures at the University of New Mexico is seeking to fill a Lecturer II position in Arabic beginning in August 2014. The successful candidate will contribute to the pedagogical goals of a department seeking to expand its offerings in critical languages and in the internationalization of our campus and programs. We currently have a tenure-track Assistant Professor with whom this Lecturer will work closely in building courses and programs in Arabic.

    The position will involve teaching a base load of twelve credits a semester.

    The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the teaching of undergraduate courses in Arabic language. S/he will also develop upper-division courses in the context of an expanded Arabic program. This person will help create courses and programs to expand Arabic at UNM. S/he will interact with other programs and departments across campus such as Asian Studies and International Studies.

    Salary and benefits are competitive.

    This position requires an M.A. in hand by time of appointment in a field of Arabic language, literature, applied linguistics, and/or pedagogy. Native or near-native fluency in modern standard Arabic and at least one dialect is expected. Also required is native or near–native fluency in written and spoken English. Evidence of university level teaching is expected.

    We would prefer a candidate with evidence of successful involvement with student activities. Familiarity with standards-based teaching and assessments is preferred. Evidence of excellence in teaching and of use of best pedagogical practices. Evidence of familiarity and of use of classroom teaching technologies. Evidence of ability and willingness to assist in Arabic program development.

    The ideal candidate will be:

    • A native speaker of Arabic or someone with near-native fluency.
    • Someone who has successfully taught Arabic to non-Arabic speakers for at least three years, preferably at the middle and/or high school levels.

    Arabic Language Position

    Lecturer/Assistant Professor - Arabic language/Arabic studies

    Wellesley College seeks applications for a full-time, renewable Arabic language/Arabic studies appointment beginning in Fall 2014. Emphasis is on Arabic language teaching, and qualified applicants should be prepared to teach Arabic at all levels (elementary, intermediate and advanced). Native or near-native fluency in Standard Arabic required. The successful candidate will teach four courses per year and contribute substantially to the Arabic Language and Middle Eastern Studies programs. PhD preferred; MA or ABD considered. The appointment will likely be at the rank of Lecturer, although a tenure-eligible rank of Assistant Professor is a possibility for a candidate with strong research potential.

    Responsibilities of the position will include teaching four courses per year and participating in the core activities of the Arabic Language and Middle Eastern Studies Programs.     The Institute for Middle East Studies (IMES) at the Elliott School for International Affairs at the George Washington University invites applications for a part-time Arabic language assistant. This adjunct contractor will conduct weekly language tutorials with graduate students and offer general advising, tutoring help and proficiency testing preparations in Arabic.

    Basic Qualifications: Native or near native fluency in Arabic; M.A. in Arabic or related field; demonstrated ability to teach Arabic at college level and ACTFL testing training in Arabic; demonstrated ability to provide tutoring help; ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings.

    The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at Indiana University, Bloomington, seeks applicants for a full-time lecturer in Arabic, effective Fall 2014. Responsibilities will include teaching three courses from beginning to advanced-level Arabic per semester and actively participating in all the academic and cultural activities of the Arabic program. The successful candidate will preferably have a PhD in Arabic language, linguistics, applied linguistics, or a related field, and is expected to be competent in the use of instructional technology and communicative, standards-based teaching methodologies. The candidate must demonstrate native or near-native proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic, an Arabic dialect, and English.

    The Department of Modern Languages (http://www.cmu.edu/dietrich/modlang/) invites applications for a tenure track position in Arabic beginning in August 2014.  Of particular interest are candidates at the rank of assistant professor whose research focuses on one or more of following areas: literary and cultural studies, second language acquisition and literacy, bilingual studies, technology enhanced learning.  Successful candidates must have an earned Ph.D., strong evidence of research productivity, excellence in teaching, potential for securing extramural funding, native or near-native proficiency in Arabic, and interest in teaching courses across the range of the curriculum.  Teaching load is 2+2.

    • Online teaching experience is required.
    • College-level teaching experience is preferred.
    • Familiarity with the Rosetta Stone Language Learning System is required.
