    Five College Visiting Lecturer in Arabic
    Asian Studies Program

    Mount Holyoke College and the Five College Arabic Language Initiative invite applications for a full-time, one-year visiting lecturer position in Arabic language beginning July 1, 2017. Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in Modern Standard Arabic, English, and at least one Arabic dialect. Master’s degree or above in Arabic language, literature, linguistics, culture, Arabic Studies, or a relevant field is required.

    The successful candidate will teach five courses during the academic year at Mount Holyoke and at least one other campus of the Five College Consortium. Candidates should have demonstrated experience and excellence in teaching Arabic language with the proficiency-communicative approach at elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of strong teaching at the undergraduate level and experience mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.

    Visiting Assistant Professor of Arabic - Three-year position
    Middlebury College

    The Department of Arabic at Middlebury College announces an opening for a three-year position in Arabic at the Visiting Assistant Professor rank beginning the Fall semester of 2017. Superior language proficiency in both Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and English is required, as is native or native-like proficiency in at least one Arabic dialect. The area of specialization for the position is open, with preference given to candidates doing research on the Arab world in the field of linguistics or the social sciences.

    The successful candidate will teach MSA courses at all levels, from beginning to advanced levels, including the possibility of upper-level courses in Arabic in their disciplinary area. Candidates should hold a PhD in their area of specialization or should at least have an advanced ABD (all but dissertation) status with near-term plans for completion of a doctorate by the time of appointment.     • Plan and/or conduct small and/or large group language classes using a wide variety of language teaching methodologies and techniques, stressing speaking, listening comprehension, and reading skills.
    • Participate in non-classroom activities in the Washington area as well as language immersions.

    Required Qualifications:

    1. A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching adult learners the foreign language they will be providing to FSI in a classroom setting (2 or more students).
    2. BA/BS, MA/MS, or Ph.D., or foreign equivalent degree(s) in any field.
    3. A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching foreign language with proficiency-based or task-based curricula.

    Brandeis University, Department of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies, invites applications for a full-time, renewable lectureship in Arabic language beginning Fall 2017.  The Department seeks a dedicated, meticulous, and passionate Arabist willing to contribute to the long-term quality, stability, and development of the Arabic program at Brandeis, particularly at the elementary and intermediate levels of instruction.  Arabic courses at Brandeis service a wide range of student interests and programs, most notably the undergraduate Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies program and Brandeis’ graduate program in Arabic and Islamic Civilizations.  The successful candidate must be able to employ an effective proficiency-based approach, including a rigorous and systematic approach to Arabic grammar.
