Two Lecturers in Arabic Language

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Swarthmore College invites applicants for two full-time positions as Lecturer in Arabic Language to begin in fall 2020.

The successful candidates will be expected to teach some combination of Modern Standard Arabic at all levels and advanced Arabic dialect courses (at least one candidate must be able to teach Levantine Arabic), for a total of six to eight units a year, and will contribute to growing the Arabic program through involvement in curriculum development and extracurricular activities, like the Arabic Table and cultural events.

We are seeking candidates who hold an M.A. in teaching Arabic as a foreign language or a related field, such as Arabic literature, with native or near-native fluency in Modern Standard Arabic and Levantine Arabic. A record of excellence in teaching Arabic as a foreign language is required, as is up-to-date knowledge of second language acquisition teaching methodologies. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate success as a co-teacher and have experience integrating technology into the classroom.

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
