Position: Arabic Language Instructor

Job Type: Part-time/Local Candidates

Job Announcement:

The Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center (SQCC) is hiring qualified Arabic language instructors to teach a diverse range of non-native adult students. Qualified Candidates must be able to teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced MSA. Also, must be able to teach Arab culture, Arabic media, and business Arabic. Instructors will be expected to (1) use our online course management system COURSEsites by Blackboard; (2) teach our course required textbooks, use Hans Wehr Dictionary of MWA, and incorporate supplementary materials into the course. Classes are offered Monday through Thursday during evening hours (6-8 pm and 8-10 pm).

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching Arabic for non-native adult students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students.
  • Create classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interest, and abilities of students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of Arabic program established curriculum goals and lesson objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and students’ performance.
  • Project enthusiasm, professionalism, and willingness to help students learn.
  • Create a dynamic and interactive classroom learning experience.
  • Collaborate with Arabic program coordinator to ensure delivery of the required Arabic courses in alignment with the program goals.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the adult students' various needs and interest.
  • Monitor students’ performance and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Arrive on time for each teaching session assigned to you.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Arabic, Linguistics, Education, International Relations, Middle Eastern Studies, etc.) AND at least five years teaching AFL experience.
  • Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Arabic, Linguistics, Education, International Relations, Middle Eastern Studies, etc.) AND at least three years teaching AFL experience.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities (SKA):

  • Demonstrate enthusiasm about teaching AFL and experience in pedagogical approaches to teaching communicative Arabic.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Arab World’s history, culture, politics and economy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.
  • Be proficient in using Microsoft Office and Apple-based technologies such as iPad and Apple TV.
  • Be proficient with web-based applications used in learning such as EdPuzzle, PlayPosit, Quizle, etc.
  • Be able to develop and teach blended language learning and task based activities.
  • Have a mastery of integrating social media applications for target language and culture educational purposes.
  • Have strong Arabic and English communication skills to deliver course content and explain subtle Arabic language concepts and expressions.
