    Visiting Assistant Professor of Arabic

    The department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures at Virginia Tech is accepting applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Arabic. 3-3 teaching load. Service duties may include but are not limited to designing and conducting assessments as well as engaging in extracurricular activities and student recruitment.

    Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Arabic language pedagogy, literature, translation, linguistics, or a related field. Native or near-native fluency in Arabic and English. Demonstrated excellence in teaching Modern Standard Arabic at all levels and at least one dialect to non-native speakers at the university level. Requires a criminal background check and may require occasional travel to attend professional conferences.

    Preferred Qualifications: At least three years of experience teaching Arabic to non-native speakers at the university level. Familiarity with contemporary second language teaching methodologies. Familiarity with instructional technologies. Familiarity with OPI and other types of assessment, such as the Flagship reading and listening tests.

    Applicants must submit (1) a letter of application that describes their teaching philosophy and relevant teaching experience, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) name and contact information of three people who are willing to submit recommendation letters, and (4) teaching portfolio (list of courses taught, two sample syllabi for two different levels of Arabic courses, two complete sets of teaching evaluations).
