The successful candidate’s responsibilities include teaching three courses per semester, possibly including a Arabic culture course, and providing administrative direction to the Arabic Language Program, including tasks such as hiring additional instructional faculty, training and supervising graduate and undergraduate student teaching assistants and other instructors, conducting placement tests, and curriculum development. There is no research obligation for this position, and there is potential for promotion to clinical associate professor.

The successful candidate must be able to regularly teach in-person classes on the University at Buffalo campus beginning fall 2022.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Ph.D. in Arabic language pedagogy, literature, culture, applied linguistics, or a related field.
    • Native or near-native proficiency in Arabic and English.
    • Demonstrated excellence in teaching Arabic language at all levels and Arabic culture courses to English-speaking students at the university level.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • At least three years of experience teaching Arabic at the university level is preferred.
    • Familiarity with contemporary second language teaching methodologies, instructional technologies and curriculum development is desired.

Applicants must submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, teaching portfolio (including a list of courses taught, three sample syllabi for two different levels of Arabic language courses and, if available, an Arabic culture course, teaching evaluations, a link to approximately 30-minute teaching demonstration video for an Arabic language course, which may be an online class), and email addresses for three references.

Teaching portfolio materials are required for a complete application. The portfolio materials must be attached via the UB Jobs automated system.
All application materials should be submitted via UB Job: https://www.ubjobs.buffalo.edu/postings/33104. Application materials submitted directly to the posting contact will not be acknowledged and cannot be considered.

Review of applications will begin on April 15, 2022, and continue until the position is filled. Interviews will be conducted via Zoom.
