The Department of Comparative Literature at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time teaching faculty position (non-tenure-track) in Arabic, with a preferred start date in August 2021.

Responsibilities include teaching introductory, intermediate, and advanced undergraduate courses in Arabic (three courses per semester), as assigned, along with supporting duties on behalf of the Arabic program, which includes an undergraduate minor. Requirements include native or near-native fluency in English and Arabic, a Master's degree in a related field or equivalent advanced training including language pedagogy, and relevant teaching experience. Candidates who have ABD status at time of application, or a Ph.D., experience with communicative and standards-based methodologies, program-building experience such as supervision or curriculum development, or availability to teach in the summer if needed will be given special consideration and should highlight these qualifications in their application materials. Rank and contract will be determined based on qualifications. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and includes benefits. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity. This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

To apply, submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae and statement of teaching philosophy with your online application. In addition, please send the names and contact information of two references to Charlotte Eubanks. Review of applications will begin on May 1, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled.
