The Program in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies in the Department of Classics at Notre Dame invites applications for a full-time Teaching Professor in Arabic language and culture with the rank of visiting assistant teaching professor to begin August 25, 2020. The initial position is for one year with the possibility of renewal. Responsibilities include teaching some courses in Arabic civilization (in English) and first year through advanced Arabic (3 classes per semester), active involvement in language and culture activities, and close collaboration with faculty to continue building a rigorous and cohesive program. Teaching Professors are considered full members of the departmental faculty and are expected to make appropriate contributions of service to the program, department, and college. The appointment offers excellent benefits and competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants should have at least an M.A. in linguistics, literature, Middle Eastern Studies, or relevant field, as well as preparation in communicative language pedagogy. Applicants should also have native or near native fluency in Modern Standard Arabic, at least one dialect, and English, and some experience teaching Arabic at beginning and intermediate levels.
