Instructor or Professorial Lecturer in Arabic World Languages and Cultures College of Arts and Sciences, American University

The Department of World Languages and Cultures in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a term faculty appointment for Academic Year 2019-2020. Rank will be dependent on experience and stature in the field. The appointment is a 9-month term position and will commence on August 26, 2019.

Applicants should hold a PhD or other terminal degree in Arabic language, Arabic language pedagogy, Arabic linguistics, or Arabic literature. Highly qualified applicants with a master’s degree in these disciplines will be considered. Applicants should be proficient in Modern Standard Arabic and at least one Arabic dialect, in addition to spoken and written English. Arabic teaching experience at the university level and evidence of teaching excellence are required. Applicants should be familiar with innovative teaching methodologies and with the use of technology in the classroom. The position will require the incumbent to teach five to six undergraduate courses per year in Arabic, including, but not limited to, Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced Arabic language courses. All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in School and University activities and service.
