Assistant Teaching Professor of Arabic

The Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies at Georgetown University invites applications for a full-time position of Assistant Teaching Professor of Arabic, starting August 2019, on a three-year non-tenure line contract.

Ph.D. in hand by Summer 2019 is preferred; advanced ABDs will also be considered. We seek a dynamic individual committed to innovative methods of teaching Modern Standard Arabic in the context of Arab-Islamic culture. Preferred fields of specialization are the Modern or Classical Islamic humanities, including literature, history, linguistics, and cultural studies. Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in Modern Standard Arabic and an Arabic dialect; thorough grounding in classical Arabic language (including syntax and morphology) and culture; and experience in proficiency-based, communicative methods of teaching Modern Standard Arabic. Experience in proficiency testing is a plus.
