Instructor Position in the Teaching of the Arab Heritage

The Department of Arabic and Translation Studies at American University of Sharjah invites applications for an instructor in teaching general education classes in Arab heritage. A PhD in Arabic Studies is preferred. For these purposes, “Arab heritage” means introductory courses on the historical, literary and linguistic development of Arab heritage. Successful applicants will have native or near-native proficiency in Arabic and English. The language of instruction at AUS is English. Relevant teaching experience is expected. The teaching load for instructors is 4/4.

Especially qualified candidates holding a master’s degree will be considered. Applicants holding a master’s degree must be able to demonstrate three or more years’ experience in teaching Arabic studies.

AUS is located in the emirate of Sharjah, adjacent to Dubai, UAE. Founded in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, AUS is an independent, not-for-profit coeducational university in the Gulf, serving some 5,600 students of more than 90 nationalities. American University of Sharjah (AUS) is licensed and its programs are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Affairs Division in the United Arab Emirates. AUS is also accredited in the United States of America by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

Applicants should have experience in and/or familiarity with the North American higher education system, and experience in dealing with cultural and educational needs of a linguistically and culturally diverse student population. The ability to contribute to other courses offered by the department will be a distinct advantage.
