Five College Visiting Lecturer in Arabic
Asian Studies Program

Mount Holyoke College and the Five College Arabic Language Initiative invite applications for a full-time, one-year visiting lecturer position in Arabic language beginning July 1, 2017. Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in Modern Standard Arabic, English, and at least one Arabic dialect. Master’s degree or above in Arabic language, literature, linguistics, culture, Arabic Studies, or a relevant field is required.

The successful candidate will teach five courses during the academic year at Mount Holyoke and at least one other campus of the Five College Consortium. Candidates should have demonstrated experience and excellence in teaching Arabic language with the proficiency-communicative approach at elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of strong teaching at the undergraduate level and experience mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.

  3. statement of teaching philosophy,
  4. a statement about mentoring a diverse student body,
  5. teaching evaluations from three recent courses (uploaded as one document), and
  6. contact information for three references uploaded in the field marked “Other Document” (formal letters will be required at the finalist stage).

In addition, we will request samples of teaching materials (e.g., syllabi, teaching plans, exams, handouts, etc.) from selected finalists. Review of applications will begin May 1, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Mount Holyoke is an undergraduate liberal arts college for women with 2,200 students and 220 faculty. Over half the faculty are women; one-fourth are persons of color.
