Full-Time Lecturer/ Teaching Specialist in Arabic, University of Minnesota

The Arabic program at the University of Minnesota is seeking a qualified, dynamic instructor of Arabic with an interest in program building and professional development. The Arabic program at the University of Minnesota is a dynamic and growing program located in the Department of Asian Languages & Literatures, where all language programs focus on intensive language instruction alongside courses on literature, film, and cultural expression more broadly speaking. We offer three levels of intensive Modern Standard Arabic; colloquial Arabic; and courses in Arabic literature and poetry, framed by language partnerships, conversation tables and cultural events. The position will be full-time; start date 8/31/2015. Candidates with an M.A. degree will be appointed as Teaching Specialist; those with a Ph.D. will be appointed as Lecturer.

Duties and responsibilities: Teach assigned language classes; keep office hours; prepare course materials; prepare and grade exams; engage in curriculum development; participate in professional development opportunities (trainings, workshops, presentations).

Required qualifications: M.A. or foreign equivalent in Arabic or related field, including but not limited to Arabic linguistics, Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language, or Education. Native or near-native fluency in Arabic. Strong English language communication skills. Min. 2 years university-level teaching experience in the Arabic language. Demonstrated ability to lead communicative, student-centered classrooms. Collegiality and ability to work in a team.
