  • Title of Position: Arabic Lead Teacher 
  • Location: Harlem, New York and Brooklyn, NY
  • Hours: 4-6 hours per week for 5 months
  • Age: 19 and up
  • Start Date: As soon as possible

  • Compensation: Commensurate with experience and credentials. Instructors are paid on an hourly basis.

About the Job-
Global Language Project (GLP) is a not-for-profit organization that partners with public elementary schools to create and fund after school language programs.  Currently, we have employment opportunities for part-time, Arabic Instructors.  All positions will work on site at partner elementary schools.

Program overview:
Children are introduced to Arabic language in a student-centered and immersive learning environment through interactive instruction, cultural activities, music and games.  The emphasis is mostly on oral communication and learning about other cultures.  We believe that our programs’ excellence is ultimately measured by the quality of its staff, which is why we’re extremely selective when it comes to our faculty.  Every employee is held to the highest standards and must complete a pre-employment screening process.

Duties & Responsibilities:  
• Coordinate with the program director, curriculum specialist and other Arabic instructors in creating the curriculum plan, unit plans and daily lesson plans prior to the program start.
• Work with other instructors to evaluate student homework assignments and results of other assessment tools.
• Communicates effectively with supervisors, parents and students. 
• Enhances programs reputation by exploring creative and innovative teaching and learning tools 

The successful candidate will demonstrate: 
• A minimum of B.A. in teaching Arabic as second language, ESL, Bilingual Education or Early Childhood Education is required. A M.A in the related fields is preferred. 
• A minimum of one year of classroom teaching experience with elementary schools students
• Experience in foreign language curriculum and lesson plan development. 
• Ability to plan, implement and evaluate individual, small group, and whole class instruction 
• Excellent classroom management skills 
• Success in incorporating hands-on and co-operative learning activities

  • Time Frame: We have openings available for Spring 2012 in New York.

We equip disadvantaged elementary public school students to compete in a globalized world and workforce by providing a comprehensive language-training program aimed at helping them achieve fluency in a language other than English.
