We require you to have:
- Spoken fluency and written proficiency in English AND one of the following languages: Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, German or Spanish.
- At least 5 years prior experience working with middle or high school students.
- Leadership experience and abilities.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
Our
Language Directors are senior administrators that help create and run our intensive four-week summer immersion programs. You will be responsible for leading a team of experienced educators and the Residential Advisor.
MMLA follows the traditions and success of the Middlebury College immersion programs and the curriculum development of the Monterey Institute of International Studies. All staff and students adopt the Middlebury Language Pledge©, modified as needed for the student age group and language level, so that a full-immersion environment is created.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Creating a positive learning environment for the students that is diverse in activities and experiences and leading orientation training.
- Planning and implementing all daily academic and non-academic programs and events for the students in your academy.
- Supervising the faculty and staff in your language academy and ensuring your language team is following MMLA curriculum, policies and guidelines.
- Assisting in recruiting students.
- Handling all disciplinary actions in areas related to academics, such as violations of the language pledge or academic dishonesty.
- Communicating with parents regarding academic matters.
- Working closely with the Site Manager on operating within the Academy budget.
This is a residential position. You will be provided room and board, although housing is not provided for family members. You will have scheduled time off each day and week, plus two full days off during the 4-week session. All employees pay for their travel to and from program locations.
