Texas A&M seeks Assistant Professor of Arabic

Assistant Professor of Arabic Position:

Texas A&M University announces an entry-level, assistant professor tenure-track position to teach courses in Arabic, beginning fall 2012. Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Arabic, applied linguistics, Arabic literature, or related fields, and must have the Ph.D. in hand by August 31, 2012. Candidates must possess native or near-native command in Modern Standard Arabic and should have experience teaching Arabic to nonnative speakers at a university level, knowledge of one or more Arabic dialects, and fluency in English. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to scholarly research and publication appropriate to a research-oriented department and university. Candidates will be expected to teach two courses per semester. These courses will include beginning, intermediate, and advanced Arabic language courses, Arabic literature, and Arabic culture and civilization.

The committee will begin reviewing applications on November 20 and continue until the position is filled. Preliminary interviews will be held at the annual convention of MESA, December 1–4, 2011, in Washington, D.C.
