Tenure Track Position in Arabic and Islamic Studies - Brandeis University

The Department of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis University Announces a Tenure Track Position in Arabic and Islamic Studies.
Brandeis University announces a new position of tenure-track assistant professor in Arabic and Islamic Studies, and serving as the Director of the Arabic Language Program, in the Department of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies.  This position will carry a four-course teaching load per year and administrative responsibility for the Arabic Language Program.  In accordance with the needs of the curriculum, the four courses will be divided between language instruction (at all levels) and content courses in Arabic and Islamic studies.  In addition to teaching undergraduates, the selected candidate will advise and instruct graduate students in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies, including the Arabic and Islamic Civilization track.

Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. by the beginning of the appointment term, area of specialization open.  The ideal candidate will have at least two years of relevant teaching experience, demonstrated skills in supervising language teaching faculty, active involvement in major areas of Arabic and Islamic Studies, and a research agenda appropriate for a tenure-track position.

First consideration will be given to applications that arrive by October 20, 2011.  Applications must include: CV, a letter expressing research and teaching interests, two sample syllabi (one for IMES 104a, “Islam: Civilization and Institutions,” and one for a language course), teaching evaluations (if available), one brief writing sample, and three confidential letters of reference.
