Arabic Job Announcement

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track position in Arabic to begin August 2013. OPEN RANK. Depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate, the position will be tenured or tenure-track. Teaching load 2-2.

PhD required in Arabic language, literature, culture, linguistics, second-language pedagogy, or a related field. As a Research I institution, Virginia Tech strongly values scholarly productivity as well as excellence in teaching. Ability to teach undergraduate courses in literature or linguistics as well as culture and language from elementary to advanced. Training or experience in second-language pedagogy desired.

Willingness to develop a program in Arabic, to organize co-curricular activities, and to promote study abroad.

Native or near-native fluency in Modern Standard Arabic, a dialect of Arabic, and English. Must meet eligibility requirements to work in the U.S. at the time of appointment.
