Preceptor in Modern Standard Arabic, Harvard University

The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University seeks applications for a preceptor in Modern Standard Arabic. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2017. The preceptor will be responsible for teaching Arabic from the elementary to the advanced levels, work with colleagues in organizing cultural events, evaluating students, and developing course curricula.

The position is for three years, renewable for a term of up to five years, contingent on performance, enrollments, curricular need, position availability, and divisional dean authorization. Teaching duties include a minimum of five courses per year of instruction in Arabic language from the introductory to the advanced levels.

Basic Qualifications: The successful applicant should have experience in teaching Arabic at the beginning and advanced levels, and demonstrate broad cultural literacy in the realm of modern literary Arabic. S/he should have native or near-native proficiency in Arabic and be familiar with current methodologies of second language acquisition.

Additional Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with a solid academic background and with interest and knowledge in contemporary Arabic humanities and/or social sciences A strong doctoral record is preferred.
