Attention Arabic, Chinese, and Russian Teachers:

What:  Just a reminder that the deadline for teacher application for the North Georgia College & State University Foreign Language Foreign Service Academy (FSFLA) is approaching.  We need outstanding, energetic, and dedicated teachers for our high school summer language academy.  This is a beginning level residential program for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors with no previous exposure to Arabic, Chinese or Russian.

Deadline for Teacher Application:  April 1, 2011

Requirements:  1) Native or near native proficiency; 2) Successful teaching experience in the target language; 3) Willingness to utilize a teaching methodology appropriate for high schools students in an intensive, three week language camp. 

Session Dates: Two cohort sessions of three week duration or 21 consecutive days. First Cohort: June 12-July1; Second Cohort: July 10-July 29

Class Ratio: 16 students to one teacher; Two counselors (cadet mentors proficient in target language) will be assigned to each cohort language group

Teacher Compensation: Free room and board provided (if desired); $1,000 per week ($6,000 total); Six days of instruction per week; Six hours a day; Additional activities and study time will be planned for evenings.

Two Field Trips Per Session: 1) Teacher directed and language specific (First Saturday); 2) A consolidated adventure trip for all students (Second Saturday)

We will need the following documents to accompany your application:

  • Current Curriculum Vitae or Résumé
  • Copy of a state issued K-12 or 6-12 Teaching Certificate in Arabic, Chinese or Russian (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Essay - Complete a statement describing your teaching philosophy, and the methodology you will use if selected for an intensive three week language course.
